TCL Communication Announces July Handsets and Other Products Shipments up 24% YOY
Sustainable Growth in Sales Momentum and Rolled-out its First Tablet
(HONG KONG, 8 August 2011) - TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited (“TCL Communication” or the “Company”, together with its subsidiaries referred to as the “Group”; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products in July and the first seven months of 2011.
In July 2011, the Group was able to sustain growth in the sales momentum. The Group’s handsets and other products sales totaled 3,614,635 units during the month, up 24% from the corresponding period in 2010. Of this total, 3,120,338 units were sold in overseas markets and 494,297 units were sold in the PRC, representing year-on-year increases of 11% and 410%, respectively. For the first seven months in 2011, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products rose 35% year-on-year to 23,065,810 units, with the 20,878,249 units were sold in overseas markets, representing an increase by 33% from the corresponding period of the previous year.
The sustainable growth was mainly attributable to the Group’s successful geographical expansion into new and high-potential markets, together with the successes of the Group’s “Step-up” product strategy and brand building efforts. To further enhance its competitive advantages, the Group has also continued to enhance its R&D capabilities, fostered the strategic cooperation with major telecommunications operators around the world, and continued to expand in the emerging markets.
To maintain the sustainable development of overseas market and enhance its brand reputation, the Group has signed a three-year partnership with the Amaury Sport Organisation in France and the Group becomes the official partners for years 2011 to 2013, especially, the 100th Le Tour de France tournament in 2013. This sponsorship arrangement will further boost the global image of ALCATEL ONE TOUCH brand.
To strengthen its penetration into both low to mid-end and high-end markets, the Group has stepped up its R&D efforts in 3G Android smartphones and tablet. In July, the Group launched its first tablet, TCL Pad16 / ALCATEL ONE TOUCH T60. With its highly flexible customization feature, the tablet provides a wide range of intimate functions which suite the demands of worldwide customers.
The Group continued to develop its business in China. In June, the Group participated in the E-Surfing 3G Internet Cellphone Fair, which was held in Guangzhou. Backed by the huge success of its CDMA products in overseas market, the Group demonstrated the innovative image of TCL and ALCATEL ONE TOUCH and received overwhelming response. With this first step to enter the CDMA market in China in the second half of this year, the Group will launch a series of marketing campaign in the coming future in order to consolidate its corporate image.
